Description

The GSP Recreation Park in Cyprus is a project by the architectural firm KIZIS ARCHITECTS – Gr. G. Patsalosavvis Architecture + Design. The landscape architecture study was undertaken by Ecoscapes. The main objective of the project was the regeneration of the area, aiming to create a green space in the center of the city of Nicosia with easy access for its residents. The project includes an open-air amphitheater for urban gatherings, reflecting the site’s former use. The elevated green roofs shape new urban frontages and provide access from the park/plaza to the theater foyer. The planting design is based on the Cypriot landscape and is organized into distinct zones, such as a Mediterranean Hill on the eastern side, a deciduous woodland on the western side, and a pine grove surrounding the open-air amphitheater.

For the green roof infrastructure, products from Prasini Stegi were used. The system applied is an intensive type, while Diadomino elements were installed on the steeply sloped areas to ensure stability and effective soil retention. These systems are certified by EOTA and have been successfully implemented in numerous projects both in Greece and abroad. The specially designed drainage systems of Prasini Stegi allow for maximum water retention while ensuring effective excess water runoff.

The installation of the green roofs and the planting works were carried out by GreenTech LTD.
